 Special days in 2010!

Australian Wildlife Displays March
The children had a wonderful time when Anthony from Australian Wildlife Displays bought his animals in to show us. They were all able to touch the crocodile, snake, frog, tawny frog mouth, possum and kookaburra. He taught them about where they live, what they eat and this visit sparked real interest in our native animals and how to care for them.

Easter
What imaginative Easter hats the children made! They were so thrilled to be able to parade them around the room in front of their family, and then the best bit, Easter morning tea, yum.  We also had a wonderful Easter Raffle, full of chocolates which raised a few hundred dollars that will be put towards children's resources.

Drum Beats
Wow, it was loud and the Possum and Wombat children loved it. Chris from Drum Beats bought their Kindy Beats show to share with us. They each had their own drum and didn't even realise that they were learning; Drum Beats say "Studies are increasingly showing that children commencing school with a developed sense of rhythm learn new skills such as reading, writing andmath more easily."

Mother's Day Afternoon Tea
It was lovely to invite our Mums in for afternoon tea, share some special time with them and give them the gifts that the children had been making.

Preschool Program and School Readiness !

Explore & Develop Norwest offers uniquely designed preschool program that is implemented for all children between 3 1/2 to 6 years. Our preschool is operated by a qualified teacher who aims to provide experiences and programs that will help children develop those essential 'school' skills. Our Preschool program focuses on preparing children for their transition to school by addressing the following competencies;

  • Social and emotional readiness
  • Conflict resolution and Social negotiation skills
  • Self-help skills and independance
  • Academic skills (These include skills such as early writing, comprehension and understanding of basic numeracy concepts)

We have and Explore and Develop School Readiness Handbook which can be obtained by calling 8883 0522.

In 2009 we were lucky enough to have Nyree, Pediatric Occupational Therapist from Theraphy and Learning Centre and Ms Helen Amos Assistant Principal from Matthew Pearce Public School address our parents at our Preschool and School Readiness infomation evening.

We are in the process of organising our evening for 2010, which will take place in early August.

Parent Teacher interviews will take place at the end of June, they allow teachers to take time with parents to provide feedback on their child's development and progress toward school.
